On 01 Oct 05 Major General Frank Scoggins, Commander of
the Washington Air National Guard awarded the Bronze
Star Medal to Lieutenant Colonel Scott G. Whitmore.
Lt Col Whitmore led a team of 22 operations,
communications and logistics specialists to form the
Operation ENDURING FREEDOM Close Air Support Command
Center, under the Combined Air Operations Center.
Four years ago terrorists attacked America. Across
this country Guardsmen answered the call of their
country, left their homes and offices, left their jobs
and their loved ones to come to its defense... taking
the fight to our enemies.
During their September drill weekend Detachment 1 of the
Washington Air National Guard commemorate the tragic
events of September 11th, 2001.
The Bronze Star Medal is awarded to Master Sergeant
Gregory A. Kassa by Major General Scoggins on March 6,
2005 during a Washington Air National Guard ceremony,
which recognized Kassa’s achievements, meritorious
service and heroism while engaged in operations
involving conflicts with opposing foreign forces.
MSgt Kassa's father Mr. Ted Kassa, himself a Bronze Star
recipient for his actions during the Vietnam War, was on
hand to pin the medal on his son.
