143rd CBCS Gets A New Commander

The 143rd Combat Communications Squadron (CBCS), Seattle, WA, Washington Air National Guard, officially installed as its new commander Major Todd D. Olsen, during a recent change of command ceremony.  He replaced outgoing commander, Lt Col Neil A. Currie, who became the new commander of the 252nd Combat Communications Group (CCGP), Camp Murray, following his promotion to Colonel.

Major Todd Olsen brings to his new position many years of military experience in the communications computer systems field.  He was born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1960.  He graduated from American High School, Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico in 1977.  He pursued his post-secondary education in the United States, graduating from Central Washington University in Ellensburg in 1982 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.  Four years later Major Olsen completed a Master’s Degree from Golden Gate University while in the Air Force.

Major Olsen began his military career in 1982, receiving his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force through the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at Washington State University.   After completing the Communications-Electronics Officer School at Keesler AFB, MS in 1983, he was assigned to the 2037th Communications Squadron, Luke AFB, AZ.   He became the Chief of Maintenance for the unit where he remained until his separation from active duty in 1987.

The following year, after returning to the Pacific Northwest, Major Olsen joined the Washington Air National Guard, assigned as an Electronics Officer with the 215th Electronic Installation Squadron, Everett, WA.  In 1990, he transferred to the 242nd CBCS in Spokane assuming duties as a Maintenance Control Officer, Chief of Maintenance, and eventually Chief of Operations.  In July 1998, Major Olsen became the Director of Operations for the 252nd CCG at Camp Murray.

In his civilian capacity, Major Olsen works as a Project Manager in Information Technology.
